No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open the app and start recording.

Hermit's AI runs on your device, so it needs the AI models stored locally. During setup you choose a speech-recognition model (about 75 MB to 485 MB) and a language model for summaries and chat (about 700 MB to 1.8 GB). Wi-Fi is recommended.

Models are downloaded once from Hugging Face and aren't included in your device backups. You can see their sizes, switch models, or delete them in Settings, then Storage.

iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 26.5 or later. The on-device language model needs a fair amount of memory, so newer devices give the fastest summaries. On older devices, try the smaller Llama 3.2 1B model in Settings.

Yes. Once the models are downloaded, recording, transcription, summaries, tasks, and chat all work without an internet connection. iCloud sync resumes when you're back online.

AI models make mistakes, especially with background noise, overlapping speakers, and unusual names. You can edit any transcript directly, then use Regenerate Summary & Tasks to update the summary.

For better accuracy, choose a larger speech model in Settings. If you record in a language other than English, turn on multilingual transcription.

Open the task's menu and choose to add it to Reminders. Hermit asks for Reminders access the first time. Only the tasks you pick are sent, and changes flow one way, from Hermit to Reminders.

Turn on App Lock in Settings. Hermit will then ask for Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode when it opens, and hide note contents in the app switcher and Spotlight.

Deleted notes go to the Trash and stay there for 30 days. Open the Trash to restore them. After 30 days, or once you empty the Trash, they are gone for good.

If your devices are signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud enabled for Hermit, your notes, including audio, sync automatically through your private iCloud database. We can't access it.

To stop syncing, open Settings on your device, tap your name, then iCloud, and turn off Hermit.

iCloud sync keeps a copy in your iCloud account. You can also export a note's audio and transcript from the note's share menu and save them anywhere you like. We don't hold a copy of your notes, so we can't recover anything that's lost.

Delete the Hermit app to remove everything stored on that device. If you used iCloud sync, also go to Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, then Manage Account Storage, and delete Hermit's data. There's nothing to delete on our side because we never had it.

It depends on where you are. Many places require everyone's consent before a conversation is recorded. When in doubt, ask. You're responsible for following the law where you record. See our Terms of Use.
